I Now Pronounce You

Even NyQuil Can’t Save ABC

In all honesty I would rather deal with some sort of pain than deal with being sick. Sprained ankle v. head cold? Gimme the ice. Any time. And right now, I’m thinking I’d rather have my arm in a sling than this…this…achy, tired, sore throat crap. And what’s worse than that is now every Sox fan is coming out of the woodwork to talk smack. Where ya been?!

Ahh well, I can’t say I fault them. And I take my lumps like a man. But when you can’t speak all that well because your throat is so screwed up and you had fever dreams all night? To say I’m not at my best is a gross understatement. When Kid Brother called me last night I think all I could muster was a few “Stupid Indians” comments before telling him that I had to go back to sleep.

So what am I doing to recover? Am I home in sweats, eating chicken soup and drifting in and out of fever-y sleep? No, I am not. I am at work reviewing the on boarding and recruiting process my company utilizes. I’m scheduling interviews and setting up annual reviews for several of my employees.

If I’m not here, it doesn’t get done…and I love my job. I really, really do. So I put my head down and do what’s gotta get done. Then I go home and sleep.

Last night I did just that. I talked to Kid Brother for a bit then fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up I was faced with something far uglier than how I was feeling.

The ABC Tuesday night line up.

I’m really not much of a network TV show guy. I do like Heroes but I’ve only caught about 30 minutes of Chuck since the premier. I’m more of a watch-a-movie or the History Channel type of guy. The networks don’t really do that much for me, especially with shows like Dexter out there. But Caveman and Carpooling? I swear to god I didn’t know they still made TV this bad. It’s unwatchable unless you’re sick as all hell on a Tuesday night. Then it’s watchable…but only because I couldn’t get myself to the remote. Bad acting, directing so awful that these guys couldn’t get a gig in porn, and writing that is just…well, actually the writing gives me hope. If this job o’ mine doesn’t work out, clearly ABC is taking all applications.

I did manage to surf through some channels and find Reaper at 9:00 on CW. I never realised that it’s a hybrid CBS/Warner Bros channel. (See you learned something today) This show has promise…either that or the NyQuil kicked in. Regardless of that, they should take it in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer direction and run with what works; campy themes and the occasional metaphor.

But, like I said it might have been the NyQuil. Everything is so pretty when you throw the NQ in a glass with some ice and sip for a spell.

Yuck. Go home and get some rest there, sicko. The longer you prolong it, the longer it’ll take to get back to 100%. Oh, and hydrate. Very important.

Hope that you are feeling better real soon. I’d offer a big pot of chicken soup – but I’ve only managed to master bouillon and hot water at this point in my life.

Try not to ruin the ending of Cavemen for me.

Shows like that are why I gave up on sitcoms. I watch Chuck and Heroes and Grey’s Anatomy because I love watching mindless TV, but the last sitcom I remember watching regularly was Friends.

Oh and if you have what I had, the sinus headache should be coming soon. Advil Cold and Sinus works best.

This is depressing to read. And there’s a guy at the next desk over who looks just like you describe yourself. And he coughs into his hands, not his arm.

He’s been sick for over a week. And that kind of sucks. Hope he doesn’t spread the joy to me.

I meant a guy at the next desk over from me at work, in case anyone was wondering.

I really need to proofread before I hit “submit.”

  7. FreckledK; You have NO idea how much I wish I could do just that.

AJT; Umm…they start walking upright….and then Dexter kills them.

Jo; At least Friends was well directed. These shows? You can’t even believe it. It’s like they are improving everything.

    Startingtoday; I hope so, too!

should i start walking around with a mask on? sickos everywhere. five people called out “sick” on monday, but it turns out that two of them actually were sick.

anyway. TV sucks these days. my roommate has at least two shows she feels the religious need to watch each night. on sunday night, she literally would not stop saying how good brothers and sisters was. i almost threw my laptop at her head. i have shows that i love to watch, but it totals about 5 over 7 days. it’s scary how bad it’s gotten.

    oh, and feel better. 🙂

I forgot to mention…I have a crush on Dexter, which probably speaks volumes about me.

I did know that the CW was a hybrid of CBS and Warner Brothers! Wait – I probably shouldn’t be proud that I knew that much less admit it. Damn it!

Feel better! Listening to some JT I hear helps! 😉

does this involve a sore throat that hurts like an m’fer? because i have serious sympathy for you. my kingdom for a coughdrop.

i hope you feel much better soon. surely it’s the red sox fans’ fault you’re ill.

Zinc, man. Go find some and use it. Lozenges: good. Airborne: good (even after the cold has set in). It will help.

I have nothing to say about the Yankees, as I am a Bills fan. Ugh.

One of his more amusing bits, in my opinion. I hope you feel better soon!

Sipping NQ out of a glass with some ice cubes is so much harder when you’re using the liqui-gels.

  15. I’m right there with you in the sick department! I despise it. But you should watch Private Practice on ABC….Wednesday nights. It’s a surprisingly good spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy.

Hey man, hope you are feeling better.
